I first met Chris Wilson when he was working for Adam Tulloch Electrical. My kitchen fluoros wouldn't light up, and a couple of hot points had stopped working around the house.
Chris arrived on time and quietly took stock of the situation. He investigated the problems efficiently and thoroughly, and explained everything as he went along. The problems were simple enough and he soon had them fixed; then I remembered a number of other small things and he got those tidied up too.
I noted his quiet and friendly manner, his care to understand the whole picture and to ensure that things work properly, and his talent for keeping things simple.
I mentioned my old sixties lamp which had recently stopped working. He explained that he had restored old electrical appliances for use in the movie industry at Weta Workshop, and then blow me down if he didn't offer to fix my lamp in his own time! As he explained, it wasn't really something he could do as part of his day job.
The lamp came back in a couple of weeks, better than new. Yes the worn out switch had been replaced, but he also discovered that the lamp had no earth wire, so it is now safer than it was. The work itself is that of a craftsman, and I expect that the lamp will now look good and run for at least another forty years.
Chris has since gone into business for himself, and I've had him back at my house for other electrical work. I will likely never hire any other electrician unless we're unfortunate enough to lose him to another city.
I am happy to leave Chris the key to my house and walk away, knowing that I'll be happy when I return. He's trustworthy, competent, and has a personal ethic of excellence which demands that all his work must meet his own high standards.
I heartily recommend him.
